Editorial update – new co-Editor-in-Chief, Danièle Quantin, joins Jean-Marc Steiler

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Danièle Quantin as co-Editor-in-Chief of Metallurgical Research & Technology (MRT) alongside Jean-Marc Steiler. At the same time, we are pleased to welcome Iryna Tomashchuk as Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

For many years, MRT has been co-edited by Robert Alberny, SF2M (Société Française de Métallurgie et de Matériaux) and Jean-Marc Steiler, ArcelorMittal Advisor both of whom are well-known experts in metallurgy. Having given many years of excellent service, Robert Alberny has decided to step down from the journal to pursue other projects.

Danièle Quantin is a graduate engineer of the Ecole Centrale de Paris. She has spent her entire career in the steel industry, with a focus on processes, products and customer solutions. She has been responsible for ArcelorMittal's research centres in France and Spain, as well as Human Resources Development for the group's R&D. Since the end of 2017, she has been President of Materalia, the French competitivity cluster. She is a member of the French Office for Scientific Integrity and also a past president of SF2M (French Society of Metallurgy and Materials).

Danièle Quantin will be working closely with Jean-Marc Steiler who is an experienced co-Editor-in-Chief. Jean-Marc Steiler has a PhD in Civil Engineering in Mining and Metallurgy. He has worked in the steel industry for more than 40 years. In his last position, he was Director of the worldwide R&D Portfolio in Process Technology at ArcelorMittal Global R&D. He is a former member of the European Steel Technology Platform and the European Blast Furnace Committee. He is an appointed expert for the European Community R&D programs (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe) and is an expert at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. In 2002, he won the T. Joseph Award from the American Iron and Steel Society, AIME.

Iryna Tomashchuk graduated with a MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv in 2006 and received her PhD in Physics from the University of Burgundy, France in 2010. Since 2011, she has been Associate Professor in the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne (University of Burgundy). In 2021, she received the academic degree, “Habilitation to Direct Research” (HDR), in the area of materials processing.

“We would like to thank Robert Alberny for the care and attention he has given MRT over the years,” commented Ariana Fuga, Senior Editor, EDP Sciences. “We are delighted to have Danièle Quantin on the editorial team with her vast experience in industry to complement Jean-Marc Steiler. We are also excited about the opportunities the new position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief will create, particularly in the capable hands of Iryna Tomashchuk.”
