Pebble heater, a high-tech approach for blast preheating*
A new heat exchanger has been developed for gas preheating up to 1450 °C with high heat efficiency. The technology uses a fixed radial bed with ceramic beads. A pilot unit has been operated by campaign in Germany for several years. The first intended application is as a booster, or as a substitute of blast furnace stoves. Cost is half that of a conventional stove.
