Abstract
This study investigates the feasibility of reviving vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) production at a non-operational hydrometallurgical facility in the Sughd Region of the Republic of Tajikistan. The experimental research focused on the restoration and adaptation of outdated equipment for processing vanadium-containing slags and evaluating existing processing technologies. A total of 66 tons of slag underwent to the roasting, leaching, and precipitation processes to produce ammonium polyvanadate, which was subsequently calcined to obtain vanadium pentoxide. Technological parameters, including roasting temperature, solution concentrations, and processing times, were analyzed to identify critical points of vanadium loss and optimize process efficiency. The results highlight the potential of adapting technologies with minimal investment for modern production needs. Special attention was given to the challenges of processing high-manganese slags and increasing the yield of water-soluble vanadium compounds. The study provides a detailed material balance, performance assessment, and recommendations for upgrading equipment and processes. This research not only contributes to the sustainable utilization of underutilized facilities, but also demonstrate a scalable approach for similar industrial applications. With rising global demand for vanadium, particularly in high-strength steel production and energy storage systems, this project underscores the strategic importance of leveraging Tajikistan’s hydropower advantages. The findings offer significant economic, social, and environmental benefits, paving the way for the development of a new industrial cluster in Tajikistan and promoting the transition to green economy principles.
