Moisture detection in EAF refractories*
Détection d'humidité dans les réfractaires du four à arc
Water cooling in EAF may cause explosions and damage. The steelmaker has to detect, as soon as possible, the leaks, even the slightest appearance of moisture in his EAF walls.
This paper describes the process tested at Ascométal Le Marais for moisture detection, by means of sensors inserted into the refractory walls. This method has improved and is giving good results for prevention of accidents. Henceforward a reliable solution for the quick detection of large water leaks is to be found.
