Improvements in steel cleanliness by tundish inertisation*
Améliorations de la propreté de l'acier par inertisation du répartiteur
The liquid steel, in contact with the atmosphere during the casting, will pick-up oxygen and nitrogen ; its cleanliness will be spoiled.
It happens particularly on unsteady states such as ladle change or casting start. Completely closed tundishes previously argon flushed reduce this risk.
Tests have been performed at Dillingen to study results and conditions of this technology.
