Characterization of steel waste powder used for colouring applications in bricks manufacturing
Caractérisation de poussières d’aciérie utilisées comme colorants dans la fabrication des briques
In order to use a complex steel waste powder from the Siderurgia California SA of CV, Mexicali, as additive for the production of coloured building bricks, an investigation has been carried out emphasizing the analytical problems arising for the determination of its chemical composition. The full chemical analysis of this material has implied the application of several techniques : gravimetry, redox-volumetry, inductively coupled plasma, atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), ion-selective electrodes (ISE), inert gas fusion (IGF) and thermogravimetry (TG). The results of the chemical analysis fit well with the mineralogical composition of material obtained by X-ray diffraction (XRD).
