Injection of waste plastics into the blast furnace of Stahlwerke Bremen
Injection de déchets de matières plastiques au haut-fourneau de Stahlwerke Bremen
Waste plastics were tested upon their suitability as reducing agents in the blast furnace as a substitute for coal or oil. A System for waste plastics injection was developed at pilot scale. Meanwhile an industrial installation with a capacity of 70,000 t/y was built at blast furnace No. 2 of Stahlwerke Bremen. The first operation results show that an injection level of 5,000 t/month or more than 30 kg/t HM is possible. The operation is accompanied by monthly measurements of emissions. Especially dioxine and furane emissions were found to be on extremly low levels.
