The dynamic control of the slag foaming operation in the electric arc furnace*
Controle dynamique du moussage du laitier au four électrique
The production of quality steels in modern EAF requires the presence of an adequate foamy slag during the refining phase. Today, the control of this essential operation is still based on the operator experience.
Derived from the expertise gained previously in oxygen steelmaking, CRM has proposed an improved technique for EAF through the use of specific sensors (noise and vibration measurements). Tested at Usines G. Boel, this development has been complemented by a physico-chemical study of the slag foaming conditions.
