Technology for automating coke oven machines*
Techniques d’automatisation des machines de four à coke
Nippon Steel has developped the technology for automating the operation of all coke oven machines at Oita, Yawata and Kimitsu Works. The ratio of automatic operation exceeds 90 % and for certain machines 93 %. The manpower requirements of these coke-oven batteries have decreased considerably. The problems arising from this new situation require further measures to be taken in the future and even higher ratios of automatic operation should be achieved.
