Thermophysical properties of bearing steel GCr15SiMn

The specific heat capacity, thermal expansion coefficient and latent heat of phase change in bearing steel GCr15SiMn in the spheroidized annealed state from room temperature to 1273 K were measured, and the effect of the heating rate on the thermal expansion coefficient curve was studied. The results indicate that the specific heat capacity and thermal expansion coefficient follow a linear relationship with the temperature. Good agreement (with an accuracy much closer to 1 in the square correlation factor of the linear third-order regression equation) between experimental and calculated values was found. The rising heating rates can delay the occurrence of phase change and enlarge the temperature range of phase change. The measured stable thermal expansion coefficient of the investigated steel GCr15SiMn has a higher value than that of steel GCr15 reported by previous work due to the higher content of Si and Mn. Furthermore, the latent heat of the spheroidized structure to austenite phase change is determined by the DSC heating curve as 15.04 J/g.
