Development of high quality bar and rod by applying continuous forging at continuous caster*
Developpement de barres et de ronds de coulée continue de haute qualité avec la technique du forgeage continu
Kawasaki Steel invented « Continuous Forging Method » and installed a forging machine at No.3 bloom continuous caster in Mizushima works in 1990. This method continuously discharges concentrated molten steel at center portion of blooms by forging them before their solidification are completed. The method can not only eliminate conventional centerline segregation of blooms but also control the chemical composition at center portion of blooms. The application of the method makes it possible to increase the super-heat at the tundish and thus reduce the number of non-metallic inclusions.
