The melting behaviour of Ni-Mo-C and Co-Mo-C alloys
Comportement à la fusion des alliages Ni-Co-C et Co-Mo-C
The melting behaviour in selected sections of the ternary systems Ni-Mo-C and Co-Mo-C was investigated by means of differential thermoanalysis, metallography and X-ray diffraction. In the Ni-Mo-C system, a eutectic reaction liquid → Niss + Mo2C + C was observed at 1250 ± 10°C at a composition of 11.5 at % C, 18.5 at % Mo and 70 at % Ni. In the Co-Mo-C system, a eutectic reaction liquid → Mo2C + C + Co was observed at 1170 ± 10°C and a composition of 14 at % C, 16 at % Mo and 70 at % Co. Projections of the liquidus surfaces of the investigated areas of both systems are presented.
