« Turn key » steelplant for Stahlwerk Thuringen (ARBED Group) erected by VAI within 16 months*
L’aciérie « clés en main » pour Stahlwerk Thüringen (groupe ARBED), réalisée par VAI en 16 mois
In an extremely short time, a new steel plant was designed and built for the supply of beam blanks to the section mill of Stahlwerk Thüringen. Modern technologies are used, in particular for the DC electric arc furnace, and a high degree of automation has been achieved from the scrap yard to the shipment of the finished product. Thanks to a precise coordination of the steelmaking and the rolling mill operation, the rate of hot charging has been maximized.
Subject of a presentation at the 1996 ATS International Steelmaking Conference (Paris, December 11-12, 1996, Session 9).
The authors wish to express their sincere thanks to the members of the project teams of Stahlwerk Thuringen and of Voest Alpine Industrieanlagenbau. The success of this project was only possible as result of the combined efforts of both teams.
