Optimization of the mechanical profile of rolls in continuous annealing lines*
Optimisation des profils de rouleaux sur les lignes de recuit continu
In the continuous annealing furnaces, defects may appear because of strip walking or mechanical buckling of the heated strips. Many factors, among which the roll profile, can be responsible for these defects. For the study of the influence of the roll profile on defect formation, a model of the buckling of a strip, coiled around a roll with a given profile, has been built using a finite element method. It allows the calculation of stress in the strip and of the shape of this strip ahead of the roll. The calculation, with statistical data, is in good correlation with shape measurements on industrial lines. As a result, products critical with respect to wrinkling can be processed more safely.
