Advanced stainless steel refining process based on slag-metal counterflow operation*
Nouveau procédé d’affinage des aciers inoxydables basé sur le recyclage du laitier
To produce stainless steels more economically and ecologically in the AOD, a new process has been investigated. In this process, Cr2O3 rich slag generated at the end of the decarburization period, which has been reduced during the Fe-Si conventional reduction period, is recycled to the dephosphorized hot metal of the next heat, and is reduced with coke and [C] in the first decarburization period. As a result, more than 40 % of Fe-Si and CaO is saved and waste slag is also decreased.
