Qualitative and quantitative examinations of microscopic steel cleanliness in slab samples*
Évaluation qualitative et quantitative de la propreté microscopique d’échantillons de brames
Extensive examinations are necessary already on the liquid phase in the steel plant to meet the high quality demands of steel cleanliness in the finished product. VOEST ALPINE Stahl Linz GmbH tried to connect the microscopic steel cleanliness in slab samples to process technical parameters in the steel plant. The aim of this project is to guarantee specific demands on steel cleanliness. DDQ and structural steel grades are included in the investigations. The results are based on the qualitative determination of non metallic inclusions, as well as quantitative examinations of oxides, sulphides, nitrides and mixture phases.
