Enhancement of production and productivity by the Reciprocating Strand Technology (REST)*
Amélioration de la production et de la productivité en coulée continue grâce à la technologie du mouvement de la brame (REST)
High production on slab casters necessitates flying tundish change while casting at creep speed, causing permanent deformation and misalignment of supporting rolls. Simultaneously strand bulging is enhanced. Misalignment, bent rolls and bulging deteriorate considerably product quality as well as the strand mechanical support. Reciprocating strand technology (REST) is applied on the SIDERAR slab caster during flying tundish change, thus reducing the above problems. The time for tundish exchange can be extended up to 10 min and more if necessary. The aim is to have sufficient time for safe tundish exchange without overloading the casting machine and deteriorating strand quality.
