Experimental simulation of subsurface crack formation in continuous casting*
Simulation expérimentale de la formation des criques sous-cutanées en coulée continue
With increasing casting speed or/and the addition of B, P or S as microalloying elements, assurance of crack-free products becomes more difficult.
A new laboratory test method is developed which allows to study crack formation under conditions closely simulating the solidification in the continuous casting mould. Pertinent results and their potential application to CC process control are described in the paper.
