Metallurgical aspects for the production of formable thin hot strips*
Aspects métallurgiques de la production des bandes minces à chaud emboutissables
The interest for thin-gauged hot rolled steel as a substitute for cold rolled and annealed sheet has been increasing lately. In order to obtain a deep drawable hot strip, specific measures have to be taken at the steelmaking plant and at the hot strip mill. An appropriate ferrite recrystallization texture can only be realized by means of IF-steels, rolled in the ferrite range. An adequate lubrication in all ferritic stands is indispensable to avoid deleterious surface textures.
Furthermore, it is of prime importance to obtain a ferrite matrix nearly free from solute carbon at the first ferritic rolling stand and to store a sufficient amount of deformation energy during ferrite rolling.
