The effects of roasting product of siderite as catalyst on combustion characteristics of bituminous coal and anthracite are investigated. The roasting experiments are carried at 800 °C with different holding time by microwave reactor, and combustion experiments are employed in a horizontal electric resistance furnace at 900 °C and analyzed by thermogravimetry. The results are estimated based on ignition temperature, combustion index, burnout index and heat release. It is indicated that the combustion reactivity of pulverized coal can be improved with adding catalyst and the optimal addition content for bituminous coal and anthracite are 1.5% and 0.5%, respectively. Under the optimal addition, the combustion rate of bituminous coal and anthracite are increased by 42.5% and 9.13%, respectively. The ignition temperature for bituminous coal and anthracite are decreased 7 °C and 3 °C, respectively, and burnout index are increased 49.2% and 14.88% compared with raw-bituminous coal and raw-anthracite The heat release of bituminous coal and anthracite are increased to 4.7 kJ/mg and 4.66 kJ/mg with adding catalyst.
