The present work presents a study to derive the statistical correlation of the free lime content of the Linz–Donawitz (LD) converter slag by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) as an analytical tool. On the basis of the TGA curves for LD slag fines of different particle size, the authors have derived a statistical correlation of the weight loss obtained with the free lime values obtained by the wet chemical method. It was observed that the experimentally obtained free lime values were in excellent agreement with the predicted values obtained from the statistical correlation.
Key words: thermogravimetry / free lime / weight loss / correlation / LD slag
