New technology for near net shape casting by tundish-mold connected caster*
Nouvelle technologie pour la coulée de produits minces sur une machine comportant un système de liaison répartiteur / lingotière
New technology for near net shape casting was developed in Sumitomo Metal Industries. This technology is called tundish-mold connected casting. The soft cooling mold using ceramics was applied in order to prevent the solidified shell formation at the triple point. By this technology, small size billets or slabs have no surface defects, c.g. “withdrawal mark” and “hot tear”.
