Computer-aided on-line control methods for rail quality assurance*
Contrôle en ligne, assisté par ordinateur, au service de l'assurance qualité des rails
From 1977 to 1983, Thyssen Stahl AG has gradually built a test and inspection line for rails ; then in 1987, a computerization of this control was set up.
The test facilities consist of an eddy-current evaluation for superficial defects, a device for measuring the rail-height and its running surface flatness in the same way as an internal defects control.
A computer aided quality assurance system is integrated into the flow of materials. Since 1987, about 100,000 rails have been inspected.
