Low coke rate operation at the Kobe Steel Kakogawa No. 2 blast furnace*

The Kakogawa No. 2 blast furnace held the monthly world record of low coke rate : 298 kg/ (lump coke : 280 kg/t, small coke : 18 kg/t) with pulverized coal : 123 kg/t and oil : 62 kg/t. The lowest rate achieved is 289 kg/t.
The paper describes the low coke rate operation, with center coke charging and movable armor and discusses the phenomena observed and the results achieved.
