Development of shaft furnace*
Développement du four « shaft »
To produce economically quality steels,the Danish Steel works was led to study and build an electric « shaft » furnace.
In this process, scraps are charged by means of the shaft. Hot gases are extracted from the furnace through the shaft and preheat the scrap. The results are energy savings, reduction of the melting time and of electrode consumption.
