Development of new gauge control system with interstand thickness meter for hot strip mill*
Développement d'un système de contrôle d'épaisseur à l'aide d'un dispositif de mesure intercages sur un train à bandes
An interstand X-ray thickness meter was installed between the F4 and F5 stand of the hot strip finishing mill in Kashima Steel works.
A feedforward gauge control system with the interstand thickness meter has been developed to improve the thickness accuracy at the head-end of the strip.
The finishing mill exit thickness is estimated according to F4 exit strip thickness measured by the interstand thickness meter. The roll gaps of F6 and F7 stands are adjusted in order to compensate the estimated thickness deviation before the head-end of the strip reaches F6 stand. The work roll revolutions of F5 and F6 stands are adjusted to keep the constant mass flow of the strip from F5 to F7 stands at the same time.
The thickness accuracy at the head-end of the strip has been improved more than 30 % compared with that in the case of the conventional control.
