Oxy-coal demonstration project : final trial at Scunthorpe and project overview*
Injection de charbon-oxygène : derniers essais à Scunthorpe et vue d’ensemble sur le projet
The results of the demonstration project are summarized with particular reference to the final trial, on Scunthorpe’s Queen Victoria furnace. At Scunthorpe, attention to a range of operating parameters, particulary burden distribution control and oxygen enrichment levels allowed brief periods of stable operation with a coal injection rate of 230 kg/tHM and coke rates of 275-280 kg/tHM.
Subject of a lecture at the ATS Steelmaking Conference 1994 (Paris, 7-8 December, 1994, Session 6).
British Steel would like to acknowledge the considerable assistance provided by Hoogovens and Ilva/CSM representatives in progressing the demonstration project. The depth of their knowledge, both theoretical and practical, and their willingness to share their experience proved invaluable in interpreting the process effects observed and in deciding appropriate actions.
