The use of photogrammetry to measure refractory wear in hot vessels*
Utilisation de la photogrammétrie afin de mesurer l’usure des réfractaires dans les poches
A programme of study has shown that photogrammetry can be used to measure refractory wear of hot steelmaking vessels with the minimum of disruption to production. Automation of CCD cameras and associated software to produce images and measure surface contour has shown that a result can be produced in 30 minutes for steelmaking ladle linings. Information can be stored to allow further visual examination and detailed analysis.
Subject of a lecture at the 1996 ATS International Steelmaking Conference (Paris, 11-12 December, 1996, Session 1).
The authors would like to thank the ECSC for their sponsorship of this work and the support from British Steel and Carl Zeiss. Special thanks must also be given to all the people involved at Teesside and Carl Zeiss for their contributions to the success of the project.
