Results of the metallurgical model for the BOF blowing process control at Sidmar*
Résultats obtenus avec le modèle métallurgique de contrôle de soufflage aux convertisseurs de Sidmar
A metallurgical model for controlling the converter process has been developed. With this model the turn down temperature and carbon, manganese, phosphorus and sulphur contents can be predicted with small standard deviations and in the whole composition range.
The new model has been used to define new refining procedures based on the addition of silica and manganese containing products. Gravel is added in the case of unfavourable dephosphorization conditions in order to limit the iron losses and the lime consumption. With low silicon contents in the hot metal, gravel is added in order to make possible a smoother operation and a lower iron content in the slag.
Manganese is introduced in the steel composition by means of an addition of manganese ore. The yield is about 40 %. The addition of manganese ore is accompanied by a slight increase in the turn down phosphorus and carbon.
