Scrap recycling and production of high quality steel grades in Europe*
Recyclage des ferrailles et production d’aciers de haute qualité en Europe
One of the stakes of the massive recycling of scrap for the production of high quality steels is the control of the content of the metallic residual elements coming from scrap. The effect of these impurities on the properties of steels has therefore to be identified and quantified. Ways of limiting their content in the products have also to be determined. These are the objectives of a large multinational research project, carried out with the support of ECSC.
Subject of a lecture at the 1996 ATS International Steelmaking Conference (Paris, 11-12 December, 1996, Session 4).
The author wishes to thank ECSC for the permission to present the European project on scrap utilization.
A similar text has been presented at the 79th Steelmaking Conference (Pittsburgh, March 24-27, 1996) and published in volume 79 of the ISS Conference Proceedings.
