Melting and mixing processes in a 185-t operating ladle with one to three porous plugs*
Fusion et brassage dans une poche de 185 t à l’aide d’un à trois bouchons poreux
The knowledge of the melting behaviour of the alloy additions and of the mixing processes occurring after their addition to the melt is of definitive importance for optimum repeatable process control and for adherence to ultra-tight composition tolerances. Precise description of these processes taking into account all parameters is possible only by means of computer-assisted simulation. The two simulation models operated at the AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke are presented, using the example of the mixing process for the addition of ferromanganese.
