On-line analysis of the work roll surface deterioration in a hot strip mill*
Analyse en ligne de la dégradation de la surface des cylindres de travail au train à bandes
To get a better understanding of the evolution of the work roll surface deterioration during a rolling campaign, CRM has developed a viewing unit for an on-line surface inspection. With this system, it has been possible to determine the moment of appearance of a work roll surface defect, its evolution and the possible combination with other surface defects. A relationship has also been established between the evolution of the work roll deterioration and the friction coefficient in the roll gap.
