Rapid characterization of heterogeneities (inclusions and segregations) by spectral techniques*
Caractérisation rapide des hétérogénéités dans les aciers (inclusions et ségrégations) par les techniques spectrales
The requirements of cleanliness for steel are so high that special measurement methods have to be studied to improve the quality during the melting process and on the final products. These demands concern principally heterogeneities in steel such as segregations and inclusions. A new approach of Pulse Discrimination Analysis Spectrometry (PDA-OES) allows to study inclusions and segregations and characterize them by mapping or local spectral investigations. Some results of PDA-OES mapping analysis on centerline segregations and inclusions illustrate the interest of the method.
