The shear stress produced in the deformation region during the asymmetrical rolling process is helpful for deformation penetrability into the steel’s inner region, and then the grain can be refined. Thick steel plate shape problems can appear after asymmetrical rolling, and the snake rolling method was invented to solve the problem. The roll speed ratio, roll offset, threading strategy and roller table can affect the steel plate shape after rolling, and in-depth research on the plate shape-changing law was conducted. Asymmetrical rolling and the snake rolling process were simulated by the FEM commercial software ANSYS and the plate shape-changing law was obtained by analysis. Steel plate bends significantly with an increase in the roll speed ratio for asymmetrical rolling, but it cannot be bent any more when the roll speed ratio is up to 1.15. The optimal roll offsets are 12 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm and 22 mm when the roll speed ratios are 1.15, 1.10, 1.15 and 1.20, respectively. The optimal roll offset is 22 mm when the roll speed is up to 1.15. The stability of the rolling process and steel plate shape of the head can be improved when a synchronous threading strategy is used. The roller table can also play a positive role in improving the steel plate shape after rolling.
Key words: Thick steel plate shape / snake rolling / roll speed ratio / roll offset / synchronous threading strategy
