Argon bubbles in slabs, a non-homogeneous distribution*
Bulles d’argon dans les brames, une répartition hétérogène
Argon at the caster serves two purposes : avoidance of clogging and removal of oxidic inclusions. Some argon is captured in the solidifying shell of the slab, sometimes causing a defect in the final product. Several techniques were applied to detect argon in slabs. The argon is non-homogeneously distributed over slab depth and slab width due to the complexity of the two phase flow.
