Improvement of dephosphorization and decarburization by injection of metallurgical powders in the RH*
Amélioration de la déphosphoration et de la décarburation par injection de poudres métallurgiques pendant le traitement au RH
Steel P and C contents may be reduced by injection of metallurgical powders in the RH equiped with a MESID lance. By using such powders during dephosphorization in the vacuum unit, the degree of oxidation in the converter may be reduced, which requires less iron in the slag and allows less lime consumption.
By injection of iron oxides during the decarburization phase in the degasser, this reaction is accelerated and very low carbon levels may be achieved starting from higher C levels. A comparison with the usual practice is presented.
