Recent improvement of BOF refining at Kwangyang Works*
Amélioration récente du procédé d’élaboration aux convertisseurs à l’aciérie de Kwangyang
Because Kwangyang Works produces mainly low P and low C steel grades, the steel and slag in the BOF tend to be overoxidized. Several trials were carried out to improve the BOF refining, on the basic concept of lowering both the oxygen content and the phosphorous content. For this purpose, a new oxygen nozzle was designed based on the result from cold model experiments and field tests. The blowing programme and the slag retaining process were improved, respectively. As a result, both De-C and De-P were enhanced simultaneously. The consumption of several kinds of additions and the slag volume were reduced remarkably.
